The RDA is supporting the National Autism Speaks Light It Up Blue (LIUB) initiative this April! Around the country, individuals and businesses will light the exterior of their properties with blue lights, or even just one blue light bulb. This initiative shows support for continued Autism research, education and advocacy, while also creating a beautiful scene. Now after several years of success, National monuments and cities are Lighting It Up Blue, and the River District is pleased to participate this year!
The Light It Up Blue initiative will span the full month of April, however we encourage all River District residents and businesses to consider installing one blue light bulb (or more) and light on April 2nd, National LIUB night! Google the LIUB initiative to see great images from around the country, and Florida! Blue light bulbs are available at most major retailers.
For more information, please visit www.autismspeaks.org. This initiative is being led by local Ambassador and RDA member Cheryl Jones of Cheryl Jones Interior Design. Please contact Cheryl at Cheryl@ccjdesigns.net or www.ccjdesigns.net.
New to the River District in April will be a series of events in Cornog Plaza at the downtown library. All free and family friendly, these are brought courtesy of the Lee County Regional Library and the Friends of the Fort Myers Regional Library. Included will be Friday Poem Time (weekly), an Egg Hunt, an Acapella Concert, and a Community Sing-a-Long.

Don’t miss the season finale of the newly launched Mystery Walk series on Friday, April 10th! After a great launch year, the April event, VOICE; Voice of Instrumental Community Experience will begin an annual celebration of the sounds of the DRUM. This event will bring drum circles and others from around the region to create a spectacular fun-filled evening.
Follow us on Facebook for more information.
The first Sunday of every month the Butterfly Estates’ Non Profit Organization, The Florida Native Butterfly Society, opens its doors to the public with free admission. The purpose is to expose as many people as possible to the importance of Florida’s incredible butterflies. The program is intended to inspire guests to plant butterfly gardens to support and increase natural populations. Enjoy many new vendors every month, kids projects and activities. For more information, please visit: www.thebutterflyestates.com
Note: If the Butterfly Estates lot is full there is free extra parking across Fowler Street at The Constitutional Building.
As season begins it’s a good time to review the recently implemented Passport Parking program throughout core downtown at all meters.
Guests to downtown who park at meters can download the Passport Parking app or can call 239-790-4675 to register. With this users can pay for parking with their phone or call from the numbered meter and pay via credit card.
Text messages and alerts can be enabled through this app, receipts sent, and guests will be able to extend their metered time from their phone.
Informational rack cards are available at the CRA (1400 Jackson Street) or at Denison Parking (2123 First Street).
